Marek Tiits is the Chairman of the Institute of Baltic Studies, a private think tank that specialises on the policy analysis in the Baltic Sea Region. His particular fields of expertise are in the domain of science and technology policies and development economics.
Mr. Tiits has held for the past 10 years different national and international expert and advisory positions in field of innovation, research and development. He has been working as the permanent secretary of the Estonian Research and Development Council, the strategic advisory board to the Estonian government, chaired by the Prime Minister. He has been national expert with the European Commission DG INFSO, and an external expert to the United Nations foreign direct investment arm UNCTAD. He has served as member of eEurope Advisory Group, an advisory committee to the European Commission on the information society, established by Commissioner Erkki Liikanen.
