Education and wellbeing
At the core of education and wellbeing is shaping people’s knowledge, attitudes and behaviour to support awareness and safety in society and the health and wellbeing of people. This research area includes lifelong learning from elementary to higher education and science and focuses on both formal and non-formal and informal learning. Interventions and prevention in the fields of health, labour, environment and sustainable development, social coherence, technology usage and national defence contribute to wellbeing as well.
Our goal is to advance high-quality, inclusive and lifelong education and science and to support the wellbeing of both the individual and society in various ways – from shaping interventions and prevention measures to making practical policy recommendations. This helps support learning and critical thinking, mental and physical wellbeing, and responsible behaviour in people, which creates the basis for a sustainable, inclusive, healthy, and educated society.
We have conducted research on the different aspects of education and science from the perspectives of institutions and individuals. We have studied youth work and non-formal education, sport, movement and health behaviour, and assessed the impact of prevention programmes. We successfully cooperate with education, prevention and health experts from universities and the public sector, and with other people and institutions relevant to the topic, including schools and youth centres.
