School/Culture Collaborations for Civic Engagement and Critical Citizenship Education
The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) regularly commissions comparative national analyses to support policymaking and evidence-based decision-making. This project focuses on collaboration between schools and cultural institutions to promote citizenship education and critical citizenship, including democratic attitudes and young people’s readiness to participate in social and democratic life.
The aim of the study Culture and Democracy Study and Peer Learning – School/Culture Collaborations for Civic Engagement and Critical Citizenship Education is to map examples of good practice, analyse the current situation, and support transnational learning. The project includes a literature review, compiling a collection of best practices, sharing lessons learned through training sessions, and developing recommendations for both policymakers and practitioners.
The project was commissioned by DG EAC and the contract was awarded to Visionary Analytics, who engaged the Institute of Baltic Studies to map the Estonian examples. IBS’s role includes:
- Collecting and analysing information concerning Estonia
- Contributing to the refinement of the study’s outputs
- Participating in project discussions and preparing study visits
