Economic policy and value chains
Major shifts in global economy are making access to export markets increasingly uncertain for Baltic Sea region businesses. This research area focuses on how to develop business and economic development strategies under conditions of change and uncertainty. The aim is to build the resilience of companies and the economy: the capacity to identify and seize new economic opportunities while minimising vulnerability to external shocks, such as supply risks or instability in export markets.
We examine which strategies exporters and export promotion agencies could use to strengthen their presence in international markets, as well as how to reduce import dependence by seeking alternative suppliers. We also support economic policymakers in identifying which product groups and services could facilitate export growth and raise living standards.
A key strength of IBS is our capacity to manage large databases and to apply artificial intelligence and machine learning in analysing global trade. This enables us to provide precisely targeted strategic recommendations for policy makers.
